Promoting Health and Wellness for African American Families and Communities

African American
Technical Assistance Project

Cost-Free technical assistance to organizations committed to reducing and preventing the abuse of alcohol and other drugs among African Americans.

Studies show traditional treatment and recovery programs for alcohol and other drugs (AOD) often fail African Americans.  Not because of a lack of commitment, but because of a lack of knowledge about unique cultural and social characteristics of the population.  ONTRACK Program Resources strives to strengthen organizations and build bridges to recovery for African Americans.  ONTRACK assists organizations by expanding resources, providing technical assistance and supporting efforts to incorporate cultural competency in AOD programs.

Project Goals

  • To improve and promote the health and well being of California's African American families and communities.

  • To effectively respond to community needs for Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) information and technical assistance.

  • To organize existing resources to support programs and neighborhood efforts to reduce and prevent alcohol and drug abuse.

  • To assist and strengthen the programs and systems that serve the needs of African Americans with alcohol and other drug problems and related social, political and health issues.
